

Maria Franca Lo Verme was born in Naples, Italy on Feb. 10, 1922, to parents Francesco and Adelaide Santoro. She was the oldest of their ten children. Maria grew up in the turbulent times leading up to and including World War II. During the war she met Dominick M. Lo Verme, an American officer serving in the Allied Forces’ campaign to free Italy from German occupation. Following Victory in Europe day, the two married and moved to the United States. Dominick brought his new bride to Milford, CT, where they resided for twenty years. During that time the couple had three children, Elaine, Lawrence, and Clifford. In 1967 the two moved their family to Easton, CT where Maria continued to live until her death. Maria is survived by her three children, Elaine M. Young and her husband Frank W. Young of Shelton CT, Lawrence J. Lo Verme and his wife Laura M. Lo Verme of Fitchburg, MA, and Clifford M. Lo Verme and his wife Eileen C. Lo Verme of Merrimack, NH, two sisters, Elvira Di Ieso and Italia Fontanella both of Naples, Italy, eight grandchildren, Kimberly A. Call, Danielle M. Bender, Shannon L. Grumet, Patricia A. Powers, Penny N. Lo Verme, Pamela L. Janovyak, Stephen M. Lo Verme, and David J. Lo Verme, eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Maria, known to many as “Frankie”, will be remembered for her Italian hospitality, her kindness and her great capacity to love. Maria died peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 16, 2012 from complications following a heart attack. Calling hours will be at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Tpke, Monroe, CT, Thursday, Dec. 20 from 4PM to 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Notre Dame Church, 655 Morehouse Rd., Easton CT, Friday, Dec. 21 at 10:30AM. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery 425 Buckingham Avenue, Milford CT.
