
Morton Irwin Gelfand, age 84, beloved husband of Martha Gelfand, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. Gelfand was a longtime resident of Trumbull before recently moving to Shelton, CT.
Mort was born in Brooklyn, NY on September, 17, 1933 to the late Clara Julian and Jacob Gelfand.
Upon graduating from Brooklyn University with a Bachelors degree in business, Mort began a very successful career in marketing and sales, both nationally and internationally. He was VP of Marketing and Sales for North American Phillips, Weidmuller International, Altec Corporation, and ENSTO International. Beyond his professional career, Mort committed a large portion of his life to volunteering. He was a 45-year supporter of St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN and was actively involved with Toys for Tots, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, and Alpha Community Services.
Mort earned his 32nd degree as a member of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of Shriners International and became a lifetime member this year.
Mort is survived by his caring and devoted wife of 37 years, Martha Gelfand, his children, Linda Pitler and James Gelfand, and his step-children, Elizabeth Zacharias Salito and Karl Zacharias. He leaves behind “the loves of his life”, his grandchildren – Joshua, Jonathan, Marc, Matthew, Logan, Hunter, and Hailey and his great-grandson, Oliver. Mr. Gelfand is also survived by his niece and nephew, Donna and Douglas. Mr. Gelfand is predeceased by two sisters Arlene and Edith Gelfand.
Friends and family may call on Sunday, October 15th, between the hours of 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son’s Funeral Home at 315 Monroe Tpk., Monroe, CT. A funeral service will be held at Spadaccino’s the following morning, Monday October 16th, at 10 AM. Internment will immediately follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery in Stratford, CT.
