Avis Elaine Ward, 86, a resident of Edmonds passed away February 10, 2017. Avis was born August 26, 1930 in Outlook, Montana. She enjoyed needle work, embroidering, sewing, gardening, and reading. She loved her pets, always having a dog in the household. She graduated from Ione High School in NE Washington as the Class Salutatorian. Later, she was very proud to work as a legal secretary until leaving work to start a family. Avis belonged to several service organizations, the VFW, Women’s Auxiliary and The Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Daughters of Rebekah. She did several charitable acts such as the Penny Drive.
Avis is preceded in death by her husbands: Wesley Nissen and Richard Ward and her eldest son Randall Nissen.
She is survived by her two sons, Rick Nissen and Terry Nissen.
A graveside committal service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the IOOF Cemetery in Monroe.
