

Charles “Chuck” Etter was born December 9, 1928, in Blacksburg, Virginia. He was peacefully called to meet his maker in his home of 55 years on June 8, 2023. Chuck will be reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Gloria.
Chuck was the fifth of twelve children, born to Leroy and Jessie Etter. Charles lived in Virginia until he was 17 when he joined the United States Navy. He attended boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois, and in July of 1946 was assigned to the USS Valley Forge. He met his wife while on leave in 1951 and was discharged from the Navy in October 1953. Charles began his career with Scott Paper in December of 1953 and eventually retired after 35 years, having created many lifelong friendships. Outside of work, Charles was a fan of NASCAR and loved attending races with his family.
The greatest testament to Charles’ life is the fruitfulness of First Baptist Church of Monroe. Charles founded the church in 1963 and served the church throughout his life. Chuck greatly enjoyed the fellowship of the congregation and he had a profound and lasting impact on a multitude of lives. He deeply loved and respected Christ and his church.
Chuck’s love for his family and friends was unconditional, his family will continue to honor him through living by his example. Chuck leaves behind a son, Fred Etter (Leanne Washington, wife), grandson, Dale Etter (Chelsea, wife, Harper and Hudson, great-grandchildren) two granddaughters, Connie Danger (Bryan Griffin), Rachel Danger (Tony Leonardi and great-grandchildren Mia, Wilder and Hartley), daughter Rhonda Pocock (Mike Graves), granddaughter Michelle Sonsteng (Jerald, husband, Austin Lankford, great grandson), grandson, John Pocock (Amber Maddalena, great-granddaughter, Anae Maddalena). As well as his 8 nieces and nephews.
Charles will be laid to rest alongside his beautiful wife Gloria in a family only celebration. A public celebration will be held on June 24, 2023 at 1p.m. by Pastor Sorgen at the First Baptist Church of Monroe, 17922 149th St SE, 98272. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
