passed away peacefully Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Maria Allen’s Adult Care Home in Bothell.
She was born February 27, 1918 in Courtenay, North Dakota to Johanna Sonsalla and Andrew Neva. She was from a family of nine children (5 boys and 4 girls) and her father used to say “four couples and a musician”. Music was a huge part of Florence’s life.
She graduated early from Buchanan High and went on to college with a scholastic scholarship, teaching in Dickey, Fried and Wahpeton North Dakota. Married to Gerhart Amann in September, 1941, they moved to Seattle, Washington. In 1943, her first son was born, Gary Neil but then was quickly taken away at age 16 from endocarditis.
Florence began her career as a Supervisor working closely with the brokerage firm owners, Foster and Marshall. After the company sold out to Harris Upham, she continued to train wire operators in all 29 offices. Florence gave birth to her second son, Donald James Amann August 26, 1949 who lives in Maltby, Washington. Florence’s pride and joy, her grandson, Casey Amann was born on the same birth month and day as her first son, Gary on January 23, 1984.
Graced by musical angels, Florence played the piano as well as winning numerous awards for her dancing feet. She could be seen at the Seattle Center with her partner, Victor Penski. Together, they danced their way to the alter and married August 10, 1979.
Florence’s inner strength was uncompromised and held strong by her devotion to her beloved Saint James Cathedral. Florence’s generosity, kindness, laughter and quick wit will be missed.
Arrangements are under the care of Purdy & Kerr w/Dawson Funeral Home, Monroe, Washington.
