After a private yet aggressive bout with pancreas cancer, Pete said goodbye on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021 from the comfort of his home. For those who are just finding out, the family hopes you understand his decision to keep his diagnosis private. The four short months since his diagnosis have been filled with family support and making the most of his remaining time: riding motorcycles, working on projects, playing games and living every day to its fullest.
Pete’s love of motorcycles started at birth. His dad brought him home from the hospital in a sidecar. He grew up near the Thames, outside London where he often played in the river with his younger brother Paul. His parents Roy and Patricia encouraged his love of mechanical tinkering which blossomed into a career spanning multiple industries as well as continents. In the mid-90’s Pete took a risk and moved to Woodinville, Washington USA where he joined the team at Mackie building professional audio equipment. He made a name for himself as a rogue MacGuyver type, the guy you go to when you just don’t know how to make something work. And sure enough, Pete would figure it out.
Always the risk taker, Pete later joined Presonus as Senior Design Engineer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Pete loved Louisiana for the food, the culture, and the year-round motorbike weather. His Cajun accent was coming along nicely when life pointed him back to the Seattle area to be closer to family. And even in a pandemic he found a perfect new spot for his skills at Midnite Solar where he loved learning to apply his technical abilities to a different industry.
His love of “figuring out how things work” wasn’t limited to motorbikes and sound-mixers. He played drums and upright bass in bands on both sides of the Atlantic. He won numerous trophies with his autonomous fighting robots, hot rod car builds, and always maintained our pinball machines in top working order. In recent years he became heavily interested in WWI history, canal narrow boats, vintage guns and strategic board games. He also loved traveling with his wife and kids. Through it all there was always music. It was his career and his passion and a source of life-long friendships.
Pete is survived by his children Sally & Oliver, his wife Kelly and myriad friends across the globe. In lieu of flowers or cards, please consider a charitable donation to your preferred charity. If you are in the UK, we suggest the Canal River Trust (https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/donate).
At Pete’s request, there will be no formal service. However, a scheduled visitation/viewing has been arranged this Saturday (February 27, 2021) at Purdy & Kerr in Monroe, WA. Please come say your farewells at your leisure any time between 10am – 2pm. If you can’t make it, or even if you can - raise a glass and say cheers to a short life lived to the fullest.
