Bettye Moreland was born on April 8, 1938, in Dayton, Ohio, to Ellis Cox and Goldie Sease-Neitman. She was Goldie’s fourth child and Ellis’ only child. Bettye’s early life was marked by both love and loss. After the passing of her beloved mother during her grade school years, Bettye was separated from her siblings and went to live with her father, Ellis, and his wife, Alice Cox. Though her world had changed, Bettye was lovingly embraced by Alice, who raised her as her own. Bettye would often say that Alice was a gift from God, and her new family became the one she had lost.
Throughout her life, Bettye was a shining example of grace, strength, and unwavering faith. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love knew no bounds. Her kindness was felt by all who knew her, and her faith was the foundation of her life.
Bettye was first married to James Wesley Sr. They were together for 13 years before divorcing in 1974. In 1975, she met and fell in love with MC Moreland, her second husband. That same year, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior—two life-changing events that shaped her journey forward. Bettye and MC shared a deep and lasting love and were married for 43 years until his passing.
Bettye had a passion for travel, with Hawaii being one of her favorite places to visit. Above all, she loved the Lord and found joy in sharing her faith. Her legacy is one of resilience, warmth, and a heart full of love.
She now rests in the arms of the Lord, reunited with her husband MC Moreland, her son Jacinto Bibbs, and all those who went before her. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the light she shared continues to shine through those who were blessed to know her.
Bettye leaves behind three loving children: James, Chris, and Winessa; six cherished grandchildren: Christopher, Lauren, Joshua, Thomas, Jordan, and Cameron; and three precious great-grandchildren: Tyler, Isaiah, and Jenesis. She also leaves behind a host of beloved family and friends who will carry her memory forward with love.
Her life was a testament to the power of love, family, and faith. She will be forever remembered and always missed.
