Calvin Stewart Taylor Sr., born on November 28, 1934, in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, passed away at home at the age of 89 on August 28, 2024. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many, Calvin lived a life defined by kindness, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Calvin grew up on a farm in Wyalusing Pennsylvania, where he developed a deep appreciation for hard work—and a lifelong aversion to chickens. He pursued a degree in agricultural engineering at Penn State University (go Lions!), returning home on the weekends to help manage the family farm alongside his mother and younger siblings after his father's passing. After graduation, Calvin ventured west to begin his career as a Field Test Engineer with New Holland, where he met the love of his life, Karen Louise Evans. Karen, a petite beauty with raven hair, eventually agreed, after some convincing, to become his wife. They were married for exactly 60 wonderful years. Together, they built a loving home and raised three children: Calvin Jr., Maria, and David. As a father, Calvin was devoted and supportive, taking immense pride in his children's accomplishments and always encouraging them to pursue their dreams.
Calvin's legacy lives on through his loving wife, Karen Louise, and their three children and their two daughters-in-law (Calvin Jr. and his wife Francine, Maria, and David and his wife Noreen). He is also remembered fondly by his eight grandchildren—Kayleigh, Chu, Hayley, Casey, Landon, Zachary, Jacob, and Ellie—and his great-grandson, Colton James. His is also survived by his siblings, Robert, John, and Joan. Calvin’s caring nature, practical wisdom, and steadfast love are deeply cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
For fifteen years, Calvin faced multiple battles with cancer, showing incredible tenacity and determination. Despite his challenges, he remained resilient and courageous until the end. His bravery in the face of adversity was truly inspiring.
A memorial service will be held on Sept. 14th at San Marino Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Calvin’s name to City of Hope (ourhope.cityofhope.org)
Calvin Stewart Taylor Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit and memory will forever remain in our hearts.
