Jack Lee Majors was born in 1934 in a small town in rural Illinois. His boyhood years were spent mostly in the town of Dixon. Jack was the oldest of 6 children. Although life was not always easy he enjoyed rural life where he learned the value and discipline of hard work, determination of spirit and the love of life and family.
Jack joined the Marine Corp. at the age of 18 and served during the start of the Korean war. He was stationed stateside in Barstow, CA where he later met his future wife Carol Reeves. Jack and Carol met on a double date. As the story goes, Carol, after seeing Jack bribed her girlfriend to switch dates with her so that she could be Jack’s date instead. They had a whirlwind romance and tied the knot only after a few short months. They married in Las Vegas in 1956 and spent the next 65 years as husband and wife.
Jack and Carol moved to Los Angeles to start their new life together. This is where two major introductions happened. They attended a Billy Graham Crusade in the heart of LA and were introduced to a relationship with Jesus Christ. They both decided to make him their Lord and Savior which forever changed their trajectory in life. They would learn over the many years together that they could depend upon God for all that they needed. This was a main focus for Jack and Caro for the many things they experienced with life and family. Faith in Christ is also one of their legacies that was joyfully passed along to their kids and grandkids.
Another key introduction was to Jim and Dorene Craig. Jim and Dorene got to know Jack and Carol as a result of the same crusade. They were invited to attend Bethany Church in Alhambra, CA where they became a close knit family. The Majors and the Craigs would spend the following decades of their lives living in the same community of South Pasadena where they also raised their children.
After his exit from the Marine Corp. Jack went to work for SYART Construction as a carpenter where he built parking structures up and down the west coast. His strong work ethic and keen abilities as a quick learner, administrator and teambuilder eventually propelled him into management. He worked his way up to the position of Vice President. Jack loved his work and took great pride in building quality structures that would stand the test of time. It was his way of blessing the surrounding communities. He passed on his wisdom and abilities to his son Todd, who today is happy to build on his fathers legacy with partnership in his own construction company.
Jack was a generous soul who liked working with people. He served at the various churches that he and Carol attended. This included Bethany Church in Alhambra where he was a Sunday School teacher. He invested his wisdom and love of life in the youth. He often took his son, daughter and the Sunday school kids on water skiing trips. The family made many trips to the Colorado River each summer to boat and waterski.
Jack loved and attended The Church on the Way in Van Nuys, CA where he served on various committees to bless the community with his business sense. He and Carol in their later years where members of Christian Assembly Church in Highland Park, CA.
His favorite past time however was golf. Jack was a longtime member of San Gabriel Country Club. He participated in many of the tournaments over the years and made some longtime close friends there. He loved spending time with friends and family enjoying golf and social events. It was a great part of his life.
In 2021 Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol Majors. It was at that time that the family made the decision to sell the longtime family home in South Pasadena and move Jack to live with his daughter Renee and her family in North Carolina. He was well taken care of and surrounded by family for these remaining years. He celebrated his 90th birthday in June of this year.
Jack is survived by his children, Son -Todd Majors (daughter in law Belinda Majors) and daughter- Renee Tullar (son in law Dave Tullar) , His granddaughters Melissa Tullar, Abby Tullar, Alysha Tullar and Rebecca Majors. He is also survived by his youngest sister Betty Steinert, nephews and nieces, and an abundance of friends including Dorene Craig and her children Shelly and Darren Craig.
Jack you are loved and will be missed greatly, but we know that your life in heaven now with Jesus your savior and with your beloved Carol is what you were missing while you were here. We thank the Lord God that he holds the entire family in his hands and we have faith that will all be reunited one day for a glorious eternity together.
