Robert F. Garcia was an impact player with a bigger than life presence that would light up a room and with a genuine love and compassion for people.

He was born on June 6, 1962 and died on October 3, 2019 at the age of 57.

Robert was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Pasadena. He proudly considered himself a Pasadena boy! Robert attended local Pasadena schools, was a member of the Boys and Girls Club, served proudly as a local Boy Scout, played AYSO soccer, high school baseball and other sports. He graduated from Marshall Fundamental Secondary School.

He loved all kinds of music. He learned to play the guitar as a young boy. One of Robert’s favorite rock bands was Van Halen. He also never missed Mexican singer Marco Antonio Solis’ yearly concerts.

He studied the art of communication and went on to receive a Broadcasting certificate that he used skillfully throughout his life to connect and communicate effectively with people.

Robert worked for the Southern California Edison (SCE) Company for 37 years. He always did his job with pride and honor. He started as a meter technician and moved up to a Field Service Representative assuming greater responsibility. He took his job seriously and was a dedicated, hardworking and most knowledgeable Field Service Representative in the organization. He served on the company’s Safety Committee bringing awareness and improving safety work practices for all employees. As a result a SCE “Circle of Safety” protocol was developed around Robert’s recommendations. Throughout his career he studied and completed numerous trainings receiving the highest score. His motto was “Safety First No Compromise!”

As a young man he attended Calvary Chapel Pasadena church where he enjoyed studying the Bible and found his passion serving in a street outreach ministry on the streets of Pasadena and Hollywood sharing his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He also served in a convalescent ministry visiting the elderly and sharing Bible scripture verses and praying with them, especially the isolated and lonely.

Nothing stopped Robert from sharing his love for Jesus Christ throughout his life. When he moved to Fontana for a period of time to help care for his ill brother, he served in a youth prison ministry bringing God’s message of love and hope.

Robert impacted youth and young adults throughout his life by praying for them, being a positive male role model and a father figure. He encouraged the younger generations to follow Jesus Christ, not give up, find ways to over come challenges, do their best in school, reach their full potential and be successful in all areas of their lives.

Throughout his life Robert had a passion to come alongside people encouraging and praying for those who were discouraged, marginalized, and suffering.

Right before his untimely death, Robert discovered a new passion alongside his wife – community gardening! This past summer he became one of the first community gardeners at the Monrovia Community Garden in Monrovia. He was motivated to improve his health through healthy eating, physical activity and social connections.

Robert joins his beloved father Andres and brother James (Jimmy) in Heaven. Robert is survived by his beloved wife Victoria, his mother Herlinda, sister Arline, two nieces Melinda and Joanna, great-niece Hannah and extended family and friends whom he loved very much. Robert was an accomplished, passionate and wise student of his faith and life. He will be truly missed and will live in our hearts forever.

Very sorry to hear about Robert's passing. I know Robert from high school days, playing on the baseball team together and having many of the same classes. According to my memory, he possibly had the best sense of humor in the school. Although he wasn't always the one being funny ( he had his fair share of that though) he WAS ALWAYS the first one to laugh at whatever the situation or joke. I loved reading of his faith and various ministries. Even in high school, Robert had a heart of empathy for those around him. Prayers for the family and friends that have been touched by his passing into God's presence. What a wonderful assurance we have as believers of being reunited with our loved ones..

I’m sorry for your loss. Robert was the first friend that I made at John Marshall when I moved to Pasadena from Azusa in 1974( 7th grade). I remember being in the auditorium and him sitting next to me and striking up a conversation. We went through six years together at Marshall. I ran in to him in Pasadena a few years back . He was a really good friend to me and I will miss him dearly.

Robert was an amazing athlete in his day! He loved playing baseball & basketball.
He loved the Dodgers & followed all sports throughout his life. He even took up golf!
I'm sure even from heaven he will still be following sports.

Robert was a very kind soul and had a great sense of humor. He was always very kind, and was fun to talk sports with. Always generous and giving, and a pleasure to be with at family gatherings. He and Vicky aided my son and I in a time of need, and I will be eternally grateful. I will dearly miss not growing older with my brother in law. May his soul rest in peace.

My sweet Uncle, words cannot begin to describe what you meant to me. For the first few years of my life I was fortunate enough to grow up in the same home with you, Uncle Jimmy, grandma, grandpa, and mom where we all developed a very close relationship. Being only 5 years older than me you were like my big brother. From the time I could walk I would follow you around & you would let me. Whatever it was you were doing always looked fun to me.
I remember when you got a joke book & you would carry it around telling corny jokes. You always loved to make people laugh. You taught me how to tie my shoes, drive a car and you introduced me to music such as Van Halen, Kiss, Cheap Trick & many more. When I was 14 you took me to my first concert Van Halen. I use to love listening to you play the guitar you even tried to teach me. Our family always had a love for music. I can remember mom would put on the stereo & teach us how to dance. Grandma & grandpa would join us they danced so beautifully together.
We were roommates on two other occasions at very trying times in our lives where we helped each other heal. You introduced me to the wrestling the WWE.
You were by my side on the day of my wedding & there to hold me on the day I gave birth to Hannah.
You have been instrumental in my family’s life, Mike, Hannah & I love you so much! You have always been there for us! You even gave us the name Team Zeman.
We always loved Halloween even as adults you always wanted to make sure all the kids got big candy bars. You gave my home the reputation for giving out the good stuff.
“May the winds be always at your back & the sun upon your face. May the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.”
Always by my side, I will always be your little side kick. “Meet Us At The Gate” Forever I love you, Your Niece Melinda

In the short years we developed a friendship, after dating and marrying our dear friend Vicky, Rob was always such a gentlemen, so kind & generous. It always touched my heart when Rob would take time to pay my family and I any type of compliment. He was quick to recognize others’ achievements and positive character traits. He would not hesitate to take the shirt off his back in order to help a person who was ill or needed support.

On a lighter note, Rob also had a fantastic taste in jewelry! He would often be the one to purchase birthday gifts for Vicky’s female family and friends.

We love you Rob and thank you for loving and taking care of Vicky the way you did! We will miss you, however comforted to know you are in God’s Kingdom.

Robbie was my younger brother. Our Mom & Dad raised us in a loving, Godly home. We were close. We had a wonderful life. Our parents were outstanding examples of what Christ wants us to be. The values we were taught stay with us to this day. We were raised to have a strong faith in God, be courageous, be optimistic, & know that with God, nothing is impossible. We are proud of you, Robbie. I will miss your humor & jokes, smile & words of wisdom. I rejoice in knowing you are with Jesus, our Dad & brother Jimmy. Watch out after us. Pray for us. I look forward to our homecoming when we are all together again.
“Meet us at the gate.” All my love forever, your sister Arline.
