The beloved Socorro Sandoval was born on July 13, 1925 in La Aurora, Jalisco. The second youngest of five children born to Vicente Zepeda and Soledad Mora, she lived a happy childhood which she always reminisced to her grandchildren about, smiling and recalling the beautiful rolling hills and luscious landscapes of her hometown. She moved to the community of El Reparo in La Aurora once she married her husband Jose Sandoval. They raised 13 children, 8 boys and 5 girls, in this town. Sadly, two children passed away; one son in infancy and daughter at the age of 9. While she was raising her children she worked at home as a seamstress creating beautiful dresses for her family and people of her hometown. Her two eldest decided to try their fortune in the United States. Eventually Socorro, Jose and the rest of the family followed in the early 1970’s. Settling in El Monte, Socorro and Jose would live out the rest of their lives here.
Socorro was always a woman of strong faith and family values, living her life as exemplary Christian, loving indiscriminately. Socorro dedicated her life in being a loving wife, sister, nurturing mother, grandmother and eventually great grandmother. Anyone who came to her presence was unarguably always embraced with the overpowering sense of warmth and love that radiated from such a small and petite woman. Socorro was truly the core and heart of her large family.
She is survived by her 11 children, 38 grandchildren, and countless great-grandchildren. Her love and humor for life continues to echo through all those she touched.
