Thomas Vogel passed away in Los Angeles at age 62 on April 30th 2014, from complications following a long battle with liver disease. His loving wife, Martha; his children, Ozzie, Brenda, and Ezra; and his siblings were by his side.
One of nine children, Thomas was born to Margarita Becerra de Vogel and Tomas Vogel in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He spent most of his childhood in Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, where his grandparents and his aunts (Las Tias) played a major role in his upbringing. As a teenager, he made his way to California to pursue the American dream. He worked in the food processing industry, including at the Zacky Farms poultry plant in the City of Commerce, where he met his wife, Martha. The two of them fell in love and started a family soon after. Thomas worked for Oscar Mayer for many years until 1990, when he started his career with the County of Los Angeles Health Department. He managed the security of Health department networks until his retirement in 2013.
Thomas loved computers and gadgets. His curiosity and endless desire to learn led him to teach himself to build computers and master all things tech. He enjoyed playing and listening to music, taking and developing his own photographs, cooking, and gardening. He also relished time spent outdoors and on road trips. However, it was spending time with his family that brought him the greatest joy.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Osvaldo and wife Margaux, Brenda, and Ezra; grandchildren, Giselle, Isaiah, and Kai; and siblings, Kari, Cesiah, Nydia, Edgar, Oswaldo, Mayra, Alex and Rey.
Funeral Services will be held Friday May 9, 2014, 1:30pm at Turner & Stevens Live Oak Mortuary in Monrovia, CA with a viewing beforehand from 12:30pm – 1:30pm. For more information, please contact Brenda Vogel at 323-823-8066 or [email protected].
