My Dearest Richard,

Forty years ago, I didn't know I was meeting the person who would become my family. 
I wanted to take a moment to write this because I don’t say it enough: You are my family. I was thinking about how long we’ve known each other—40 years! It’s crazy to think I met you as my friend's "uncle Richard" when I was just 13, but the universe knew I needed you, because when I was 18 and pregnant, our paths crossed again, and you immediately became my anchor.
You have been there through it all. You have held my hand during the worst times and cheered loudest during the best. Most importantly, you loved me and my kids unconditionally, without asking for anything in return for you loyalty. They say you can count your true friends on one hand. I keep thinking I can call you to tell you something funny, and then reality breaks my heart all over again.
For 40 years, you have been my constant, my chosen family, and the truest friend I have ever known. You loved me without judgment, supported me without question, and loved my children as if they were your own. You were there through every milestone, every triumph of their lives along with all the quiet moments in between. My kids have known you their entire lives, and your influence on them—your kindness, your strength, your humor—is a legacy that will live on forever. Thank you for choosing to be my brother, for the 40 years of memories, and for loving us unconditionally.
Losing you feels like losing a part of my own heart. I am heartbroken, but I am also profoundly grateful. The void you have left is immense, but my heart is so full of the memories we built. Thank you for choosing me to be your family.  A piece of my heart is now a star in the sky. Walking the rest of the path without you is heartbreaking, but I am a better person for having known you. Your laugh still echoes in my heart. Rest easy, my dear friend. I wil love you and miss you forever.

Uncle Richard, if you asked me to describe you ,…my uncle the marine, you carried yourself with strength and toughness but with lots of heart behind it ♥️thank you for all the beautiful memories ,from cooking breakfast for me ,showing me how to cook shit on the shingles taking me to my first concert being the Godfather of Tommy,so many more loving memories I will cherish forever. you will always be in my heart.♥️ at the end you suffered in so many ways these last few years still so strong ,my uncle the Marine. with tearful eyes,and deep sorrow we watched you pass away. God put his arms around you and lifted you up to rest now you’re with your mama. I love you dearly Uncle Richard rest in peace love,  Hopie♥️

Hi Nino it’s me your babygirl, I miss you so much already. Everyone keeps staying to be strong and you’re finally at peace and no longer suffering and it’s true you are. But I still can’t face reality that you’re gone. I keep replaying every single memory with you. I love you so much you are the strongest man I know. My whole world always lit up when I would see you and be with you. You always made me feel so loved and safe. I remember always saying “ you better stop it or I’m telling my Nino” you were my protector. My hero you were more than just a Nino to me.  When I couldn’t go to my parents for something I knew I could always come to you. You have always made me feel so safe. I was stuck to you like glue! My favorite thing to do was brush your hair and play with your ponytail and when I was done you would always say “ and my mustache mija” and I would laugh because I would on purposely forget to do it just to hear you say that. Every weekend with you was more that days off from school I would beg and cry to my mom to let me go to your house, no matter what we did I always felt like I was going on an adventure with you. From taking bus rides around town on the trolly walks to the park or the store to train rides to the beach or to Tia Hope’s house it was always just the coolest thing to do. Even if it was just a weekend staying home with you. Helping you in the kitchen and by helping I mean watching you because I just wanted to be by you. Making my favorite French toast to making me the cheeseburgers I wanted after to school. Hearing Grandma Alice yelling at me to get out of the kitchen because you never let anyone in the kitchen when you were cooking. But not me I always stayed right there watching you or pretending to do the dishes just so I didn’t have to get out. These memories I’m so lucky to have and I will cherish them for as long as I live. I love you Nino❤️
