

Archie "Durk" Durwood Collins passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on January 6, 1939, in Missouri, Durk was a beloved, kind-hearted, selfless, and resilient individual. He was known for his faithful and devoted nature, hard-working spirit, and humorous outlook on life.
Durk spent his early years in California, where he attended Santa Ana High School in Orange County. He was drafted into the United States Army in California and served honorably for two years at Fort Lewis in Washington State.
Following his military service, Durk retired from a successful career in the moving industry. He leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Marilyn Stutts; three children, John Collins, Tim Collins, and Clanice Collins; brother, Larry Collins (Mable); nieces, Kristie Broadhead (Jimmy) and Tangie Smith; three grandchildren, Adrianne Collins, John Collins, and Zachary Evans; five great-grandchildren and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Durk is also survived by his brother-in-law, John Carter (Lori) who mourn his passing. Durk is preceded in death by his parents, GP and Clara Collins, and his son, Michael Collins.
Durk had a passion for playing the guitar and was a dedicated member of the Metropolitan Church of God in Birmingham. He was also actively involved in his community as a member of the Cahaba Valley Elks Lodge No. 1738.
The family extends their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Baptist Health Shelby Hospital for their care and support. Durk's memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
