

Alma Darlene Calfee (Cox) of Jemison, AL was born on September 5, 1954. She was the oldest child of Frank L. Cox and Josie Odom Blackstock. She is the sister of Jeanette C. Kendrick, Wayne Cox, and Keith Cox. She is preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, Keith.
She was born in Helena, AL and spent her childhood there. She graduated from Wallace State Community College with a nursing degree and spent her career in nursing, primarily in the OR. She retired from the VA Hospital.
She is survived by her three sons, Brian Popwell, Brent Popwell, and Dax Popwell. Darlene’s hobbies included cooking and quilting. She was the family matriarch, an excellent host and cook. Her family and friends were blessed by her Sunday dinners which she was intentional to host once a month for more than twenty years. She will be remembered for her vibrant and welcoming personality.
She was an expert seamstress and quilter and an active member of several groups and guilds, including the Stitch and Pray Group at First Baptist Church of Clanton, Evening Star Quilting Guild, and the Cotton Patch Quilting Guild in Clanton.
Greatly loved and surrounded by family and friends in the weeks leading up to her death, she went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2026 at the age of 71.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 16th from 1:00PM-2:00PM.
