Emily and I were corresponding friends after my having attended only the 9th grade at Montevallo high school many years ago. Our correspondence began after a class reunion in the 1970s, and I truly enjoyed our letters, even though they sometimes arrived months apart. She kept me informed of the passing of our classmates, which, given that we’re now in our 90s, likely includes most of us. Emily was delightful—talented, capable, a natural leader, and a dedicated civic servant. She took great pride in her two daughters, and I was lucky to follow her grandson's wedding journey from start to nearly the end. She was a dear friend, and I am grateful for the many wonderful memories we shared. My heartfelt condolences go out to all of Emily's family and friends.

Emily taught me in junior high school and was the faculty sponsor for our high school graduation yearbook of which I was the editor. She was always cheerful, kind, encouraging, and supportive. I will always cherish my memories of her and want her family to know that she made a lasting contribution to my life.

She was the sweetest lady ,I rember her when I went to Montevallo schools ..so sorry for the lose of this absolutely gorgeous in and out soul .😥

She was my favorite teacher at Montevallo middle school.the last time I saw her she was getting groceries at Pic N sav store where I worked at for many years.I told her that day that she was my favorite teacher.her and Mrs.Martin were both very special teachers.she will surely be missed by a lot of her kids that she taught !

Emily was the substitute Sunday school teacher for my class at FUMCM. She held a special place in my heart. My prayers go out to her family during this time. She will be missed.

As Michelle Lowery's mother I would like to thank Emily's family for the love you have expressed for Michelle. Emily was very special to her and she told me ever since she has been with Emily that she was like her grandmother and  she misses her so much.  My prayers are with your family.

Mrs. Pendleton will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. I was blessed to be a student of hers and attended the same church. I remember her reading to us from a novel at the end of our science class every day. The way she read the story would just mesmerize all of us. I loved hearing her read! As a youth at church and then later as the youth director of church she was a huge supporter of the youth. After college I worked at Hatley Health care where her mom, Mrs. Vest, lived and Mrs . Pendleton was our best volunteer even for many years after her mom passed. She was kind, giving, caring and respected by all. She will always have a special place in my heart.

Condolences to the family. Mrs. Pendleton was my favorite science teacher, and she had a wonderful sense of humor. It was her positive influence that helped me pursue and get hired over 40 years ago at a lab job. They called her, and she recommended me and that led me into a lifelong career with that same company. She had such a positive impact on so many, and I fondly remember her teaching us. I had the opportunity to work with her nephew Greg for several years, and enjoyed hearing the adventures of Aunt Emily and Uncle Dudley. Prayers for peace and comfort in your family.

What a great lady and teacher she was.   She influenced so many students and colleagues.

Miss Pendleton was one of the greatest teachers and such wonderful loving person. She taught my daddy when she first started at Montevallo and taught me in the late 80’s . Over the years in between she taught all of my Hughes family.  She made science interesting and turned into one of my favorite classes.  I’ll never forget all the glass gars of specimens  she had on her shelves .   Later, after my school years and being grown with my own children, she never forgot who I was or to ask about my family when we would run into each other at the grocery store. I loved having her as a friend on Facebook and all the little jokes she would post so when I found one I thought she would like I always tagged her in them . I will truly miss her and the kindness she spread just by being who she was .

Mrs. Pendleton was a wonderful teacher and human being. She was my 8th grade science teacher and encouraged me all these years later on Facebook with my art and writing. Her kindness was the rare variety that extended far beyond what was expected or usual. She will be greatly missed and left an amazing mark on the world.

I will miss Mrs. Emily Pendleton both as the teacher who inspired me to a love of science in my early 1960s 7th & 8th grade science classes, and as a recently found FB friend..
She & Dudley served the community, a fond memory is when they chaperoned our Science Club field trip to Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
A few years back I found she had a FB page & she accepted a friend request.  Her humor was sharp & quick, and I much enjoyed the exchanges we had electronically.  
Rest in Peace, you made an impact on thousands of youngsters.

Mrs Pendleton was a wonderful teacher who inspired a generation of Montevallo  students to learn about science.
She also taught writing, so those same students  could organize their new thoughts.
Moreover she maintained gracious charm, thought of helping others, and kept her temper. It probably wasn't easy to do all this while educating adolescents, but she made it look that way.
Everyone in our house is going to miss her terribly.

Ms.Pendleton was an amazing teacher of middle school science. She led the storm keepers and taught us to spot a tornado. I remember her reading “The Boxcar Children” to our class. Emily was called into the ministry of teaching and she impacted my life as well as my classmates. Thank you, Ms Emily, for answering your call. We are forever impacted by your dedication.
