

James “David” Whitfield, age 64, of Brierfield, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly in his home on December 16, 2017. He served in the US Army and retired as Lieutenant from the Vestavia Hills Police Department. He was an avid Alabama fan and a staunch conservative. He loved to play guitar and sing. His favorite bands were The Allman Brothers and The Beatles. He was a loving husband and amazing Daddy, and he will be terribly missed. David was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Jackson “Jack” and Nealie Robinson Whitfield; grandson, David English; and brothers, Bill Davenport, Robert Shelton Davenport and Donald Whitfield. He is survived by his wife, Sara K. Whitfield; children, Eric Whitfield (Laura), Kathy Wright (James), Tracy Barefield (David) and Keith Wilson; grandchildren, Karli Hewett (Ken), Joseph Wilson (Celsie), Michael English, Jacob English, Lake Wilson, Jackson Whitfield, Mary Lynn Whitfield, Aly Whitfield, Nealie Whitfield and Brandon Whitfield; and great-grandsons, Weston Hewett and Tripp English. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo) at 2:00 PM, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
