

Margaret Townsend Beal, age 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center in Homewood, AL. She was born on April 14, 1933 in Wynnewood, OK to James Presley and Velma Grace Townsend. She married James Burton Beal Jr. on August 21, 1953 and he survives. Margaret is also survived by her children, Laura Walker, Kathy Parrott, James “Jim” Beal III and wife Debbie, John Beal and wife Beth, Jacob Beal; one sister, Betty Ann Langston and husband Bill; three brothers, James Townsend and wife DeLane, Charles Townsend and wife Joy, and Pressley Townsend and wife Una Belle; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Rachel Rogers and Rebecca McCracken. She was a long-time resident of Jemison, AL where she taught English at Jemison High School, Wallace Community College in Clanton, and Jeff State Community College. She also taught ESL in the Chilton County School System. Margaret enjoyed traveling, reading the works of Southern gothic writers, compiling a comprehensive family genealogy anthology, quilting, gardening, scrapbooking, and had a passion for horses. The funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Rockco Funeral Home (3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, AL 35115). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spring Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church (3411 Spring Creek Road, Montevallo, AL 35115).
