

Nelson Miles Gage, Jr., age 73, died on June 10, 2016 in Birmingham, Alabama. Born August 10, 1942 in Quincy, Florida, Nelson Gage Jr., was the son of the late Reverend Nelson Miles Gage of Cleveland, Ohio, and the late Margaret Matthews Gage of Birmingham. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann Zadrozny Gage; four children, Nelson Miles Gage, III (Cynthia), Laura Gage Wells (Dennis), Caroline Gage Bowling (Brandon) all of Birmingham and Michael Edward Gage (Victoria) of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Alexis Marie Deal, Hunter Matthew Wells, Charlotte Ann Bowling, and Catherine Laura Gage; his sister, Eleanor Gage Streit (Edward) of Tuscaloosa; and his beloved Maine Coon, Dolly. Nelson Gage, Jr. attended the Birmingham University School and the University of Alabama. He retired as Vice President of Team Sales after 44 years with Hibbett Sporting Goods. Nelson was a member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, the Birmingham Tip-Off Club, the Honor of TAG, and a proud member of the 1963 Birmingham Amateur Baseball Federation national championship team. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was an avid fan of Alabama football, the Chicago Cubs, golf (especially The Masters), NASCAR drivers Benny Parsons and Matt Kenseth, snow skiing, dog sledding and Roughing it Smoothly. Nelson played the electric guitar and was a lover of music ranging from Beethoven to Hank Williams, ABBA, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top. A funeral will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1024 12th Street South, Birmingham, Alabama, at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 16, 2016. A reception celebrating Nelson’s life will immediately follow at The Harbert Center, 2019 4th Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama, until 7:00pm. Nelson’s ashes will be interred at the Resurrection Garden at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at a later date.
