Opal Marie Winslett

Opal Marie Houston Winslett, age 73, of Madison, Alabama passed away December 15, 2017 after a lengthy illness. She was born to Joe Houston and Ruby Myrtle Capps Houston and was raised in the country outside of Jamestown, Tennessee with her 8 siblings. She met her future husband in Atlanta area and because of his Army career, they raised their family all over the country as well as Germany. She loved to watch soap operas and everyone knew not to interrupt her soaps. She was a very loving, kind mother, and a sweet, generous lady. She would never let anyone go hungry. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Leroy Winslett; daughter, Sheila Winslett; sisters, Hazel Hurst, Ruth Pennycuff, Joetta Houston, Darlene Howard, Carolyn Ooten. She is survived by sons, Marcus Winslett and Eric Lee Winslett (Cathy); grandchildren, Deanne Winslett and Dorothy Winslett; sisters, Gladys Faye Duncan and Linda Jones (Willie); brother, Lee Houston (Nancy); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 11:00 until 12:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), with a graveside service to follow at Montevallo City Cemetery.
