William “Cecil” Harris, age 87, died September 28, 2015.
Cecil was born October 11, 1927 in Marvel, Alabama, grew up in Siluria and graduated from Thompson High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked at the Siluria Cotton Mill as well as ABEX in Calera. He was employed with Alabaster Police Department and a Deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office prior to his career with Calera Police Department. He was employed with Calera Police Department from 1956 to 1991, where he retired from service in law enforcement as Calera’s Chief of Police. Cecil was a Charter Member of the Shelby County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #41.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Walter C. “Snow” Harris and Lela Phillips Harris; also by Lillian Robinson Harris (Mother of Phil).
He is survived by wife Cathy Frye Harris; sons Phillip A. Harris (Mary) and John Wayne Harris (Alicia); grandchildren Cindy Harris Gibbs (Billy), Tommy Harris (Samantha), Dallas Harris and Alexis Harris; great grandchildren Marshall Murner, Tucker Gibbs and Aubrey Gibbs.
Visitation will be at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo on Thursday October 1 from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be a private graveside service at Shelby Memory Gardens.
