

Alice Eugenia (Jean) Ambrose Ashurst passed away on July 20, 2023. Born to Claude E and Annie Lou Ambrose of Centreville, Al. on January 6, 1933. She graduated from Bibb County High School, (1951) and University of Alabama School of Commerce. She was married on July 10, 1955 to John M. Ashurst, Jr. and worked at the corporate office of U.S. Pipe and Foundry in Birmingham while he attended medical school. After internship and service in the U.S. Air Force, they moved back to Montgomery in 1965, where she volunteered her services to numerous organizations, including Mother’s Round Table and the Montgomery Medical Auxiliary and truly made their house a home for her family. She was a longtime member of Frazer United Methodist Church and she served in the newborn nursery for over 30 years.
Jean is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dr. John M. Ashurst Jr. 3 sons, John M Ashurst III, Jeffrey N Ashurst Sr., (Cheryl) , Lawrence J Ashurst, 2 grandchildren, Allie Reich (Harrison) and Jeffrey N Ashurst Jr,. (Rebecca) , and 2 great grandchildren ( Reese Ashurst and Janie Reich).
There are not enough words to express our gratitude for the attention and comfort provided by her devoted caregivers and Baptist Hospice.

A visitation for Jean will be held Monday, July 24, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109. Following the visitation will be a graveside service starting at 12:00 PM at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109.
