Alvah Joan Hughes

Alvah Joan Hughes, passed away Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at the age of 87. She was a long time resident of Montgomery, AL. She retired from the Ala. Dept. of Revenue with over forty years of service, and continued to work faithfully as a volunteer for Baptist East Senior Advantage until mid-2014. Joan was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Miss Hughes is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Edgar and Alvah Hughes; brother, David Hughes, brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Earline Hughes. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, John and Dorothy Hughes; three nieces, Debbie (Bruce) George, Pam (Keith) Cox, Kelly (Bill) Brendle; two nephews, Ed (Lisa) Hughes, John E. (Nan) Hughes; and several great nieces and nephews. The family would like to express special thanks to her caregivers at Capitol Hill Health Care Center. Their love and concern meant a great deal to her and the family. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at Leak Memory Chapel, with Reverend Lee Bloodworth presiding. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Joan was a beautiful, kind, and loving person, who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
