

Anne Kemey Kamburis, age 92, peacefully entered into eternal rest at her home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Thursday, December 25, 2025. She was born on May 17, 1933, in the village of Kalamoti on the island of Chios, Greece.
Anne was the heart of her family—a devoted and selfless mother, grandmother (“Yiayia”), great-grandmother, loyal friend, and a source of unwavering love and strength to all who knew her. A woman of remarkable work ethic, Anne served for nearly 40 years at the Alabama Education Association. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Anne was a lifelong servant of Jesus Christ and an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Montgomery, Alabama.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Stamatia Kemey, and her husband of 52 years, Nicholas George Kamburis. She is survived by her children, George John “Yogi” Kamburis (Margie Pharo Kamburis) and Kathy Kamburis Watson (Robert Monroe “Montie” Watson); her grandchildren, Kristina Kamburis Ames (Joseph Edward Ames), Alexandra Kamburis Nysewander (Michael Kyle Nysewander), Morgan Nicole Watson, Chandler Monroe Watson, and Alexis McKenzie Watson; and her great-grandchildren, Nicholas Michael Nysewander, Isabella Lauren Nysewander, and George Edward Ames.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are Chandler Monroe Watson, Joseph Edward Ames, Michael Kyle Nysewander, Thomas Pierre Curow, Andrew Mark Corn, John Griggs, Floyd Joseph Pharo Jr., and Joseph Anthony Pharo.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to the team at Capstone Village for the care shown to Anne during her residency. Special gratitude is extended to Glenda Lowe, Melanie Lindsey, Kathy, Carol, Lee, Betty, Katina, Melinda, and Dee. Heartfelt thanks are also extended to the Agape Hospice Team, especially Nickie Hammonds, for her support and steadfast presence during Anne’s final chapter.
A family service will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation on December 29, 2025, at 11 AM, followed by a graveside service at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens in Montgomery, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Montgomery, Alabama, in loving memory of Anne.
