
Barbara Pittard Haigler passed away at home in Hayneville, Alabama, on December 31, at the age of 91. Born in Frisco City, Alabama on December 31, 1934, Barbara was the beloved daughter of James Robert and Kitty Pittard of Talladega, Alabama. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William L. C. Haigler (Reuben); and her in-laws, William L. and Mattie C. Haigler.
Barbara graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in art from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She moved to Hayneville following graduation to marry Reuben Haigler where they lived together for 50 years. Barbara had a long and successful career teaching elementary school. She enjoyed teaching science, Alabama history and especially art. Barbara’s teaching career began at Hayneville High School and then continued at Lowndes Academy for 31 years. She was inducted into the Lowndes Academy Hall of Honor in 2023. Barbara and Reuben were longtime members of the Hayneville Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her children: Cindy (John) Tarrant, Rob (Barbara) Haigler, and Mary (Wade) Gibson and her sister, Betty (Milton) Marcum. Barbara’s grandchildren include Anna (Richard) Sommers, Andy Tarrant, Bethany (Jake) Lake and James Robert Haigler.
On Tuesday January 6th, services will be held at Hayneville Presbyterian Church with visitation at 1 p.m. and a service at 2 p.m. Graveside services will follow at the Hayneville Cemetery.
The Haigler family would like to thank Emily Andrews, Case Manager with Southern Care New Beacon Hospice and Cheryl Middleton who was a wonderful caregiver and friend to Mom.
