Barbara Grace McDaniel

Barbara Grace O’Gwynn McDaniel, 89, went home to be with Jesus on May 28, 2026.Barbara was born in Montgomery, AL to Robert Edward O’Gwynn and Grace Virginia Harper O’Gwynn. She grew up in Montgomery, graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, and attended Auburn University.

At Auburn, she met the love of her life, Benny Joe McDaniel. They married in 1959 and shared 67 wonderful years together. She is survived by her husband and their four children: Tommy (Alicia) McDaniel of Madison, AL; Susan (Eddie) Davis of Navarre, FL; Linda (Shawn) McCooey of Navarre, FL; and Patti (J.R.) McVicker of Dacula, GA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her parents and great-grandson Isaac Andrew McCooey.

Barbara was a talented artist with gifts in sewing, woodworking, and watercolor painting. She also enjoyed genealogy and compiling records and stories about her family.

Barbara gave her life to Jesus as a child in the Episcopal church. She was active in teaching preschool Sunday School at Normandale Baptist Church and Taylor Road Baptist Church. In later years, she and Benny joined Vaughn Forest Church in Montgomery as early members where they continued their Christian walk.

Above other worldly pursuits, she put her family first and worked daily to create a happy, peaceful home for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She actively enriched us through encouragement, education, service, health and in many other ways that exhibited the values of God, Home, and Country. Our family will all dearly miss her until we are reunited in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to the children’s ministry at a church or a charity for children in honor of Barbara.

Family and Friends Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, on June 6, 2026, at 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Chapel Service will follow at 2:00 pm. Services will conclude with a burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
