

RIMER, Barbara Woods, 83, former resident of Chagrin Falls, OH and resident of Montgomery, AL, passed away February 10, 2014 following an extended illness. She was born in New Castle, PA to Dr. and Mrs. John O. Woods where she graduated from New Castle High School as an honor student. Barbara attended Allegheny College in Pennsylvania where she met her husband, Charles Edward Rimer. She and her husband transferred to Case Western Reserve University in Ohio where she became the first woman to graduate with an economics degree. Barbara worked at the Machine Tool Industry in Cleveland, OH as a statistician for nine years until the birth of her first child. She would become a mother of three children and considered motherhood the most important part of her life. When her children became adults, Barbara became a realtor for Smythe Cramer Realty Company in Chagrin Falls, OH where she became the manager of the Gates Mills office. She was a member of Garfield Memorial United Methodist Church in Pepper Pike, OH, president of the Chagrin Falls Junior Women’s Club, successfully raised money for Allegheny College and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Barbara believed very strongly that citizens should return something of value to the community. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years. Barbara is survived by her son Charles John Rimer (Melinda) of Fulshear, TX, daughters Kristin Woods Rimer Miller (Michael) of Excelsior, MN and Stacey Rimer Stakely (Frank) of Montgomery, AL, grandchildren Charles John Rimer, Jr., Katherine Helen Rimer, Charles Robert Miller (Abigail), Alison Kristin Miller, Jennifer Lauren Miller, Amanda Michelle Miller, Frank Johnston Stakely, Jr., and Kristin Carolyn Stakely, and great-granddaughter Isabelle Adams Miller. She also is survived by her brother, Dr. John Woods (Betty) of Everett, WA, their children. The family would like to thank Deborah Erickson, Timeko Coleman, Pamela Scott, Karen Tillery, Gloria McMillan and Linda Schofield for their loving care of Mrs. Rimer. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Agua Viva a U.S. based non-profit organization that is dedicated to bringing fresh water to rural villages in Honduras, Central America through which one of her granddaughters does mission work.
