

Bettye Nell Boyd, 79, a longtime resident of Montgomery, died peacefully at home on March 12, 2024 after an illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubbard and Mary Bickerstaff and former husband Johnny Boyd. She is survived by her daughter Kim Smith, her son Russell Boyd, her granddaughter Savannah (a.k.a. Izzie) Smith, and her sister Dortha (Leon) Stinson, and was very close to her sister in law Liz Marshall. She was known as “the Aunt who loved children” by her nieces Lisa Newbold, Elise Stinson, and Michael Stinson. She was a beloved family member to a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bettye was born in Bullock County, Alabama on February 4, 1945. She graduated from Carver High School and received a Bachelor's degree from Alabama State University. She was a teacher for several years then with the Department of Human Resources for nearly 30 years. Bettye loved the Lord and loved to serve His children. She tirelessly taught children while making it a fun experience. She was an avid reader and passed this down to her children, granddaughter, nieces and nephew.
Visitation will be held at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Bettye was a consistent donor to this organization.
