Billie R. Capell

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Billie Riley Capell of Trussville (formerly Montgomery) on December 21, 2022. Billie has been reunited in heaven with her parents James Andrew and Fannie Lucille Rushton Riley; her husband, Clifton Powell Capell; and her son, James Andrew Capell. She is lovingly remembered on earth by her children Mary Anne Capell Wilson (Ron), Charles Capell (Leslie), and Nancy Capell Logan (Jerry); her grandchildren, Alicia LaMont (Marc), Kathryn Asbill (Earl), Nicky Boole (Nathan), Alexandra Hughes, Jeremy Logan, Stephanie Harmon (Steve), and David Logan; and 9 great-grandchildren. Billie’s life was a life well lived. She loved to travel (visiting 49 states and many foreign countries), and was an avid genealogist, sharing her expertise with many others. She was an active member of Heritage Baptist Church, the Montgomery Historical Society, the Montgomery Genealogical Society, the William Bibb Chapter NSDAR, and Daughters of 1812. Billie graduated from Troy State University with a degree in English, earned her master’s degree from Auburn University in Adult Education, and did all the course work for her doctoral degree. She retired from 28 years of federal civil service as a GS 12. Visitation will be at Leak Memory Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be at Leak Memory Chapel at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Burial will follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
