Billie Ruth Peterson

Billie Ruth (Mason) Peterson passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012 at the age of 93. She was born on April 23, 1919 and raised near Philadelphia, Mississippi. She was the second youngest of 10 children born to O. L. and Mary (Duncan) Mason. She received her nursing degree from Hotel Dieu in New Orleans and, after marrying the love of her life in 1946, joined her husband as a Navy wife. They moved to Montgomery in 1958 to set up her husband's medical practice. She was preceded in death by her parents, all nine of her siblings, and her beloved husband, Dr. James Clay Peterson. She is survived by her five children: Mary G. Peterson, James D. "Pete" Peterson (Carol), T. Clay Peterson, John Michael Peterson and Elizabeth Ann Stanfield. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Jessica Stanfield, Judson R. Peterson, Zachery Peterson, Mason C. Peterson, Colton Peterson, Griffin M. Peterson and Ryan Stanfield and one great grandchild: Robert Gatz. She was a very special woman and will be greatly missed by her surviving family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Hospice. Visitation will be this Wednesday June 13at 10:00 AM at Leak-Memory Chapel, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 AM in Greenwood Cemetery.
