Buford Armstrong of Deatsville, Alabama died at Merry Wood Lodge in Elmore on September 22, 2016. Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his wife: Jeanette Matthews Armstrong, his parents: I D Armstrong and Edna Glen Armstrong and his sister: Merle Armstrong Wells. He is survived by his daughters and their families: Jane Gilliand (the late Bobby Gilliand) and Debbie Clifton (Dennis). His grandchildren include: Blu Gilliand (Ashley), Jason Clifton (Casey), and Joshua Gilliand (Angela) His great grandchildren are: Ella and Emma Gilliand. Nieces include: Brenda Nichols and Reba Summers (Bill).
Born in Chilton County on September 21, 1925, Mr. Armstrong served in the Navy during World War II and settled in Montgomery after an honorable discharge. He worked in assembly for AMSCO. Later he ran a business called Armstrong Produce in which he was nicknamed “the Peanut Man” after all the boiled peanuts he delivered and sold. An avid gardener, he loved growing things.
A visitation (9:00 am) and a graveside celebration of his life (10:00 am) will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home and Greenwood Serenity Cemetery.
