

Cad Elizabeth Turnipseed Gates, 88 years old, a longtime resident of Montgomery, Alabama, died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 14, 2016, after a long illness. Mrs. Gates was born January 1, 1928 in Forest Homes, Butler County, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe B. Gates; her parents, William Clarke Luckie, Sr. and Elizabeth Bruner Luckie; and a brother William Clarke Luckie, Jr. She left behind one son, George McKinley; and a daughter-in-law, Lynn McKinley. She had two grandchildren, Jennifer Champion (Tommy) and Shane McKinley (Cortney). She had four grandchildren, Haley Champion, Stephen Garner, Austin Champion, and Anna-Leigh McKinley. Mrs. Gates was known as “Meme” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gates was a member of Eastern Oaks Baptist Church. Mrs. Gates worked at home, and she travelled many countries.
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Leak-Memory Chapel, Montgomery, Alabama, with service to follow in the chapel at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Eddie Gillenwater officiating. Graveside will be at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Davis, Jimmy Sharpe, Joel Dubina, John Killough, Mike McKinley, and Bruce Hadden.
The family of Mrs. Gates would like to thank Hospice of Montgomery and Alice Cotton for the wonderful care they gave to our mother and “Meme.”
