

MCCORMACK, Carolyn Jean Blake, 74, a resident of Montgomery, passed away April 4, 2011 at Baptist South with her family by her side. She was born January 7, 1937 in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Madison Moss Blake Sr. and the late Gladys M. Patterson Blake. While young, she was babysat by the late music legend Hank Williams Sr. After graduating Sidney Lanier High School in 1955, she worked briefly as a model and on a local TV show. She also rode the same bus with Rosa Parks, in which her picture was taken by a U.P. photographer and is now a part of history. She attended a local college, majoring in English and Journalism. While working on Maxwell Air Force Base, she met (the late) Col. Lemuel "Lee" Houston McCormack Jr. They were married in Virginia on September 22, 1958. They traveled extensively throughout Europe, living in France and Germany, where she served as a committee member for the Officers Wives Club. She was a member of the Air Force Civil Air Patrol, while Lee was Deputy Commander. After returning to the States, she lived a short time in Houston, Texas before returning to her home town of Montgomery and residing on Maxwell AFB. She was hostess of many parties in their home, where the guests included the Governor and other dignitaries. In 1972, she divorced and moved with her children off base. She returned as a Federal Employee at Maxwell AFB with the AF Chaplin's Resource Board, and then worked for the Air University Press as Technical Editor, where she assisted in publishing many of the War Colleges' manuals. She retired in 2006 after 33 years of editorial work. She was an avid reader who enjoyed history, gourmet cooking, belly dancing, and giving all to raising her children. Carolyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Sonny Madison Moss Blake Jr. (Elois McGlamry-Blake). She leaves behind her four daughters, Carol Lynn Stone (Bruce) of Douglasville, Ga., Janet Michelle Mays (Paul) of Prattville, Al., Sharon Leigh Donnelly (David) of Miami, Fl., and Lucinda "Cindy" Marie Hester of Shelby, Al. Her Grandchildren; Dustin Wayne Hurst, Valerie Lynn (Hurst) Moser (Travis), Marilyn Olivia (Hurst) Camp (Joe), Jonathon Lee Hurst, Blake Hadley Mays, Jesse Ryan Mays, Lauren Nichole Hester, Alexander Dwayne Hester, Christopher Huston Donnelly, Connor Francis Donnelly, her great grandchildren ; Corvin Tyler Shaw, Cameron Drake Camp, Samuel Hale Moser, David Patrick Moser, and 3 nephews.Memorial Services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Saturday April 16, 2011. The family is receiving visitors from 2:00-3:00 with services to start at 3:00pm. Reverend Tommy Bulger will be officiating. .
