Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his precious wife of 58 years, Ellen Johnson Powell; parents, Maggie and Brady Powell; sisters, Betty Spivey, Sybil Granger, Tink Davis, and Francis Hitchcock, and son-in-law, Tony Myrick. He is survived by his son, Steve Powell; daughter, Cindy Myrick; granddaughter, Whitney (Blake) Massey; grandson, Starsky (Sarah) Smith; great-grandsons, Owyn Smith and Hudson Smith; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Powell was born and raised in Troy, Alabama and served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the Korean War. He returned to Montgomery, Alabama where he served as a firefighter with the Montgomery Fire Department for 20 years. Charles was also a member of the Eclectic Town Council, where he served for 12 years.
A visitation for Charles is set for Saturday, August 31, 9:00 am at White Chapel Greenwood Funeral Home, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 10:00 am officiated by Pastor Joe Creamer and followed by a burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
