

an extended illness. He was a native of Jackson, MS and a graduate of Belhaven University.
After serving in the United States Army from 1951-1954, he relocated to Montgomery in 1959
and worked for the United States Forest Service and then the Department of Veterans Affairs
Regional Office until 1990. Following his retirement, he was employed by Carlson Land
Services and volunteered his time with Baptist Hospice and Mended Hearts, Inc. He was a
member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for many years and also a long time member of the
Exchange Club of Montgomery.
Mr. Stewart was predeceased by his wife, Jean Carroll Stewart, of Montgomery. He is survived
by his daughter, Lynda Stewart Moffitt (Richard, Jr.) and two grandchildren, Jean Caroline Moffitt
and William Stewart Moffitt, of Birmingham.
After a private graveside service, visitation will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church on
Wednesday, December 2 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Strong Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers,
