Mrs. Charlie Mae Gilchrist was born in Montgomery, AL on June 12, 1945 to the late Julia Bell Stewart. She confessed Christ and her love of the Bible at an early age, and joined Lilly Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL. He only takes the best. God saw that she was getting tired, a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around her and whispered, “Come with me.” With tearful eyes, we watched her suffer, and saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes “THE BEST”. She was preceded in death by her sister Bernice (Dollie) Stewart, and great grandson Jamari T. Gilchrist. She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted son Herman (Vera) Gilchrist, two granddaughters Cherrelle and Latasha Gilchrist, all of Montgomery, AL; two sisters, Ophelia S. Cook, Mary S. McClain of Montgomery, AL; one brother Willie B. Stewart, Detroit, Michigan; a caring brother-in-law Rev. Henry McClain, Sr.; caring Aunt Edna White, Uncle Clarence E. Stewart, Sr. of Montgomery, AL; four nephews, Timothy McClain, Jimmy Talley, Eric and Keith Brown of Montgomery, AL; three nieces, Brenda McCoy, Barbara McClain, Katrina McClain; and a host of loving and caring cousins and friends. Visitation will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 27 from 5-7pm, with a homegoing celebration on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 2pm. Cremation will follow.
