Debra Loosier Cook, EdD, 60, a resident of Montgomery, AL died Saturday, March 11, 2023. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 11:30 am at Heritage Baptist Church with Dr. Teman Knight and Family Discipleship and Administration Minister Jennifer Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:30 at the church. Mrs. Cook is preceded in death by her father Lawrence W. Loosier and her father-in-law Ernest B. Cook, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 30 years Nelson Cook, daughters Alaura Kratzer (Christopher) and Alicia Cook, grandchildren Beckett, Robbie and Nora Kratzer, mother Connie Loosier and a sister Kimberly O’Connell (Billy). Debbie spent over 36 years in education, retiring as Director of Professional Development at Montgomery Public Schools. She was a classroom teacher for 15 years and then became the Elementary Math and Science Education Specialist. In 2014, Debbie became the Director of Professional Development for Montgomery Public Schools. She has presented at conferences locally, regionally, statewide, and nationwide. Her education began at Auburn University at Montgomery where she graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Teaching, followed by her Master’s degree, Elementary Education and Teaching, and her Master’s degree in Education Administration and Supervision. She also went to Alabama State University and received her Doctor of Education – EdD, Education Leadership, Policy and Law. Mrs. Cook was a faithful member of Heritage Baptist Church, teaching classes for elementary, middle and high school students, as well as college students and young adults. Along with many other roles, Debbie served as the Volunteer Coordinator for Connect Camp at Heritage Baptist Church. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother “GiGi” and sister and will be missed by all who knew her. She enjoyed going on cruises and traveling with her husband. Her happy place was the beach. She loved the color purple in all forms, but especially purple irises. Pallbearers will be Bart Cook, Darrell Cook, Christopher Kratzer, Billy O’Connell, Brandon Cook, and Wyatt Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Three Strands Life Group. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heritage Baptist Church Connect Camp Scholarship Fund, 1849 Perry Hill Rd., Montgomery, AL 36106.
