Debbie moved to Montgomery in 1982 from Columbus, GA. She worked as church secretary at Heritage Baptist Church until her retirement, and she remained a faithful member of the church and served as a volunteer for several different mission organizations.
Debbie had a contagious love for missions and she encouraged others to find ways to minister to others through planned and spontaneous activities.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin Chandler and Alma Burke Gordy; and her brother, Donnie Gordy.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Pete Smith; her sons, Joseph Franklin Smith and Andy Lee Smith (Jaime); her grandchildren, Brianna Smith and Greyson Smith; and her sister, Martha Jane Richey (Tommy).
Family and Friends Visitation will be held at Milner Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, June 27 at 1:00 pm followed by a Graveside Service at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Debbie's memory to Heritage Baptist Church for Missions or Legacy Fund.
