“Ann”
Deborah Ann Griswold of Eclectic, Alabama, affectionally known as “Gigi,” peacefully entered her eternal home on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the age of 85. Surrounded by her beloved family, Ann passed away just as she had lived — enveloped in love and grace.
Born on November 15, 1939, in the close-knit community of Titus, Alabama, Ann was the daughter of Clarence Truett and Annie Ruth Farmer. She grew up in rural Elmore County, where her parents ran the local general store — a cherished gathering place that instilled in her the values of hard work, hospitality, and faith. Alongside her siblings, Sue and Clifford, Ann was shaped by a loving and service-oriented upbringing.
A graduate of Wetumpka High School, Ann followed her passion for education to Auburn University, earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. Answering a deep calling, Ann dedicated her life to serving children with special needs. She began her career at the Children’s Hope Center, rising to administrator, and later served as principal at Madison Park Hope Center. She retired as the administrator of the Children’s Center of Montgomery, leaving behind a legacy of advocacy and compassion.
Ann’s commitment to children extended well beyond the classroom. She played an instrumental role in organizing the George Lindsay Celebrity Weekend, a beloved event supporting the Special Olympics of Alabama.
For 60 beautiful years, Ann shared life with the love of her life, Ralph B. Griswold Jr. Together, they created a home full of love, laughter, and open doors. For more than 25 years, they lived at the lake, where their home became a cherished gathering place for family and friends.
Ann’s joy was fullest when surrounded by her family. She especially treasured Christmas, meticulously preparing her home to create a magical experience for her grandchildren. A woman of deep and abiding faith, Ann worshiped for many years at First Baptist Church in Montgomery and later found great joy at the Church in the Pines, often bringing along a host of grandchildren to worship with her.
Summers at Surfside Beach, South Carolina with her sister, brother, and extended family were among her most treasured traditions. She found her greatest delight in family vacations at St. George Island, where her vibrant presence brought everyone together in laughter, love, and lasting memories.
She was bold, magnetic, loyal, and beautifully organized. Ann’s legacy is one of fierce love, joyful service, and unshakable hospitality. Above all else, Ann loved Jesus Christ. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Now her faith has become sight, and she rests in the presence of her Savior.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Ralph B. Griswold Jr.; her children, Ralph B. “Trip” Griswold III (Diane) and Amy Reese Griswold (Pickett); and her beloved grandchildren: John Griswold, Ann Griswold, Stewart Griswold, Pickett Reese Jr., George Reese, and Charlie Reese. She also leaves behind many others whose lives were shaped by her enduring love and presence.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Annie Ruth Farmer; her sister, Sue; and her brother, Clifford.
