

Dorothy Elaine Lawson Wheat, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 20, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones. “Dottie”, as she was affectionately known as, was born in Scottsboro, AL on December 13, 1941. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Chester Lawson and Elza Bartlett Lawson. Mrs. Dorothy is survived by her husband; Jerry Glenn Wheat; and her two sons; William Lawson Wheat (Lisa) and John Michael Wheat; and four granddaughters, Brittany Danielle Sides (Blake), Crystal Amanda Wheat, Laurel Faith Wheat, and Samantha Paige Wheat; and two sisters, Billie Lawson Killough and Nancy Ruth Lawson; and three nieces, Leah Ellen Killough, Kara Wynell Killough and Heather Solares-Horsfield; and two great-granddaughters Bella Lakelynn Sides and Blair Lawson Sides.
Loyal and devoted wife, a strong and loving mother, and “world’s best nana.” She was “Dottie”, “Dot-Dot”, and “Dot” to some. To the people who loved and adored her most, she was “Mama” and “Nana.”
Known for her warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering faith, she touched the lives of everyone she met. Whether she was sharing stories from her devoted service as the secretary at Dannelly School, convincing people that Auburn would have an undefeated season, or telling people how proud she was of her beautiful granddaughters.
Mrs. Dorothy retired from the Alabama Board of Education after over 30 years of dedicated service. She was a devoted wife, mother, nana, and a terrific Auburn Fan.
The funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, with visitation beginning at 10:00am, at Leak Memory Chapel. The chapel service will follow after the visitation, at 11:00am with Reverend Matt Albritton officiating. The burial service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Kennedy “Bean”, Dylan Kennett, Ken Marcum, Larry Morrow, Stanley Patterson, and Kirkland Pugh. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Ray Philpot and Paul Storay.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in
Mrs. Dorothy Wheat’s memory.
