Dorothy Elizabeth Pierce Pulley, aged 94, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026 in Prattville, Alabama. Born on August 10, 1931, in Clanton, Alabama, to Arthur Leon and Essie Griffin Pierce, Dorothy “Dot” was the middle of three daughters and attended Sidney Lanier High School. At 19, "Dot" met her forever Valentine, Cecil Arthur Pulley, at the Forrest Park Baptist Church Valentine's Banquet. Cecil recalled meeting "The most beautiful dark haired brown eyed girl he has ever seen" that night, which led to their marriage on August 12, 1950, lasting 65 years. Cecil and Dot were lifelong Montgomery residents and founding members of Woodley Baptist Church (Thornington Road Baptist Church), leaving the legacy of a devoted Christian family. Dorothy was the Matriarch of the Pulley family, a cherished mother of Donna Welgos, Peggy Pulley, Beverly Campbell, and Walter Pulley. Dot and Cecil loved to travel America in their suburban, making memorable trips with their kids, Cecil's sister Penny, and niece Jean Coleman. Some of Dot’s favorite trips included the Hershey Bar Factory, Pennsylvania Amish Country, Arizona, Texas, and taking the grandkids to The Magic Kingdom (Disney World). Dot had an unwavering loyalty to the Crimson Tide and never missed a game. Her neighbors always knew when Alabama was playing as Dot cheered the loudest.
Lovingly known as "Mawmaw," she is survived by four grandchildren: Jennifer Edwards, Jonathan Welgos (Kimberly), Heather Perry (Ken), and Lyndsy Anjargolian (Ara); and seven great-grandchildren: Chandler, Ivey Reese Welgos, Kellen, Kaiden, Kennadi Perry, Aeon, and Eero Anjargolian. Dorothy is also survived by her two sisters, Judy Green and Nell Tucker.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Essie Pierce; her husband, Cecil Pulley; her infant child, Carolyn Anita Pulley; her grandchild, James Walter Welgos; and her great-grandchild, Jalen Ke'Shaun Smartt.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Thorington Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., with burial following at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery.
