Douglas Bruce Dyer Sr.

Mr. Douglas B. Dyer, Sr., 79, died September 3, 2022 at Baptist South Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born August 30, 1943 in Tuscaloosa, the son of Douglas E. and Mattie Sue (Kornegay) Dyer.

Doug moved to Perdido Beach, Alabama as a teenager where he met his future wife, Peggy Sue Paisley. He graduated from Foley High School, Class of 1961. Following graduation, he attended The University of Alabama where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He married his high school sweetheart, Peggy, on October 7, 1967 and they settled in Montgomery, Alabama. Once in Montgomery, he began a 41 year career with the State of Alabama Department of Industrial Relations, where he retired as the Director of Research and Statistics. During that time, he also obtained a Juris Doctorate degree from the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law. He was a loving husband and devoted father, spending countless hours coaching, volunteering and watching his three children on the softball and baseball fields of Montgomery.

He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Peggy Sue; daughters Cindy Hotchkiss (Todd) and Cathy Guerard (Dax) of Birmingham, AL; son, Douglas B. Dyer, Jr. (Melinda) of The Woodlands, Texas; and nine grandchildren, Lauren Hotchkiss, Caroline Guerard, Lindsey Hotchkiss, Braeden Hotchkiss, Becca Guerard, Allison Dyer, Jacob Hotchkiss, Campbell Guerard and Emily Dyer.

The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 334 Old Farm Lane S, Prattville, Alabama 36066.
