

Ellwood Milton Eckert, (MSgt, USAF, Retired), a longtime resident of Montgomery, AL passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 after a brief illness. Ellwood was born January 17, 1934 to George Allen and Viola Bowling Eckert of Baltimore, MD. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Purvis Eckert; two daughters, Cindy Finley of Myrtle Beach, SC. and Dawn (Dave) Dunlevy of Salem, OR.; brother Allen (Lynn) Eckert of Glen Burnie, MD.; one grandson, Tyler Russell Finley of Myrtle Beach, SC., several nieces, nephews and his four legged best friend, Sissy. Ellwood proudly served his country for 23 years in the United States Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel. Funeral services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL. with full military honors. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Paul L. Cammack; Dr. Harry M. Barnes, Ms. Judy Do, RN and all the staff of CVICU @ Baptist Medical Center-South for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Faith Rescue Mission; the American Cancer Society, your favorite charity or, in keeping with Ellwood’s sense of humor, anyone running against Obama in 2012.
