Today we celebrate the life of Eunice Twiss who has joined her Father in Heaven at the blessed age of 95 years. She was born in the township of Hartland in Freeborn county Minnesota to her parents, Palma C. Mortenson and Arthur P. Jordahl and raised in Albert Lea, Minnesota on a dairy farm with 10 brothers and sisters during the Great Depression. Her only surviving brother, Donald Jordahl, currently is living in Hartland, Minnesota. She went to nursing school in Chicago, Illinois to the Norwegian American Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in February 1947. She was able to do this under the Bolton Act of 1943 which provided federal funding to train nurses within 30 months who pledged themselves to serve in either the military or essential civilian nursing stateside during World War II.
She met our father while he was enlisted in the army in Chicago, Illinois and married him on February 5,1948.They traveled with the military to many places during these years and had 2 children, Sanfra and Mike. Retiring after 30 years of service in Montgomery, Alabama to have 4 more children. She continued to work as a nurse for many more years. They were married for a little more than 65 years before my fathers' death. She was an active member of her church St. Paul Lutheran church serving in the LWML, working in the nursery and teaching Sunday school classes. She continued to do volunteer work with Baptist Hospice after retiring from nursing.
She moved to Eastdale Estates after my father's death and had many fun years there. This past year she had many setbacks with her health and ended up at Crowne Health Care and Rehab. Thanks to all the kind nurses and staff who took such wonderful care of her. She referred to Crowne as her hospital which is quite the compliment. Thanks also to Dr Brown and his Nurse Practitioners and the physical therapy dept. Thanks also to Dr Mukkumala who took care of her for many years prior to going to Crowne and also to Comfort Care Hospice for all they did to help her.
