Evelyn St. Charles Day (Howard), aged 91, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, surrounded by the beauty of the world she loved so dearly. She lived life unapologetically, with a heart full of adventure, a spirit as free as the wind, and a soul that danced to its own rhythm.
Born on January 10, 1933 in Montgomery, AL, Evelyn was a beacon of light to all who knew her. From an early age, she embraced life with fearless passion, refusing to be confined by expectations. She was a dreamer, a doer, and a lover of the untamed beauty in both nature and people. Her infectious laughter and boundless energy drew others to her like moths to a flame.
She raced cars, traveled the world, played her favorite songs with reckless abandon, and made friends everywhere she went. Her stories, full of daring escapades and moments of deep connection, were cherished by all who heard them.
Above all, Evelyn loved fiercely. She cared deeply for her family, friends, and those who crossed her path. Her wild heart was matched only by her capacity for kindness and compassion. She believed in living fully and loving openly, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
Evelyn was predeceased by her first husband, Eugene Frank Day; her second husband, Leslie Ernest Howard; her parents, Aaron Hugh Causey Sr and Lois Whitman Causey; and her sisters, Peggy Walters and Jo McGough; and her one brother, Braxton Merrill Causey. She is survived by her children, Catherine Day Moon, Gail Brown (Russell), Cynthia Kiser, and Susan Day Raney (Larry); eight beloved grandchildren; her siblings, Caroline Reynolds, Aaron Causey Jr (Cecelia), and DeLois Johnston; and ten cherished great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy of living boldly and embracing life’s untamed beauty.
There will be a visitation for Evelyn on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 1:00PM at White Chapel-Greenwood. The celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 2:00PM at White Chapel-Greenwood. All are welcome to attend as we gather to share stories, reflect on her legacy, and find comfort in fellowship. The family invites those who knew and loved her to join in celebrating the remarkable impact she had on so many lives. The pallbearers for the service will be her son-in-law, Larry, along with her grandsons, Eric, Grant, Donald, Bryan, Dusty, Bobby (honorary) and longtime family friend, Ralph (honorary), who will honor her memory with their love and devotion.
Though her time with us was not as long as we hoped, Evelyn lived a life so vibrant and full that it will echo forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
“She was a wildflower in a world of roses, and her spirit will forever bloom.”
