(1937 - 2026)
Evelyn Hearn Teel, age 88, went home to heaven on February 3, 2026. She was born May 3, 1937 in Tuskegee, Alabama to the late Frazier Hearn and Eula Bell Goodson Hearn. She moved to Montgomery in 1956 where she remained. Evelyn was married to McErwin Teel for 32 years and she was preceded in death by him in 1988. They were the proud parents of Marcia A. Teel and Rita F. Teel, both of Montgomery.
She is survived by her siblings: sisters, Carolyn Roberts (Bobby-deceased), Betty Davis (Ricky), Linda Hawkins (Danny-deceased), Sharon Owens (Rick); and her brother, Gerald Hearn. She was preceded in death by her brothers Glen, Frazier, and William Hearn.
Evelyn was employed by the Veterans Administration Regional Office for over 39 years. She was a long-time member of Capitol Heights United Methodist Church where she devoted herself to the work of the Lord. If there was a job at the church, she was likely a participant in just about every one of them. She had a servant's heart and served with love and kindness. Everyone who knew her described her as the "sweetest" lady. She freely gave of her time and talents with love, kindness, and caring.
Evelyn was a loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Because of her deep love for children she was a mother/grandmother figure to countless children - too many special children to name them all. However, one of the brightest joys in her later life, was becoming a beloved grandmother, known as NaNe, to Olivia and Madison. They spent many happy hours together and NaNe's house was filled with laughter, love, and toys. A special thank you to Rachel, Chris, and Kim for sharing these precious girls.
Heartfelt thanks to Paulette M. Culpepper and Georgia Taylor for their devoted, loving care of Mom. To everyone at AGC Hospice who helped us, thank you for your kindness, compassion, and guidance as we cared for Mom in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local church, The Foundation for Fighting Blindness, or the Carnation Foundation of AGC Hospice which provides support to hospice patients and employees.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 8, 2026 in the Chapel at Leak Memory Funeral Home, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL. Visitation will start at 1:00 pm. A graveside service will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
