October 14, 1935-June 29, 2025
Gail Sanford Kendrick, 89, a longtime resident of Montgomery, AL, died peacefully in her sleep,
in her home on June 29, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Gerald
Kendrick, her parents, Frederick Warren and Evelyn Steinberg Sanford, and her brother, Brian
Wallace Sanford. She is survived by her sister, Linda Sanford Rousseau; sister in law, Patricia
Booth Sanford; son, Alan Kendrick (Virginia); daughter, Karen Kendrick (Ralph Lindstrom). and

Gail was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 14, 1935 and the family later settled in
Montgomery. After graduating from Lanier High School, she attended Miami University of Ohio,
then led a very interesting life as the wife of Bill, an Air Force navigator. After Bill retired from the
Air Force, they returned to Montgomery. Gail graduated from Huntingdon College in 1981, and
received her master’s degree in Judicial Administration from Auburn University at Montgomery.
Gail loved her community and was devoted to improving the lives of those nearest to her
including establishing the school library at Floyd Elementary School, organizing a residential
zoning protection project, and being a Girl Scout Leader. She was a founding member of the
Cloverdale Idlewild Association, which still conducts the annual Independence Day Parade to
Cloverdale Bottom.
In 1995, Gail and Bill moved to Elmore County, where she served seven years as the Elmore
County Republican Party Chairman and was later on the Board of Registrars. Practically a
lifelong member of Cloverdale First United Methodist Church, Gail particularly enjoyed her
friends in the Tower Class and the Emmaus Class, and participating on the communion
committee.
Gail was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, and will be missed by many.
We want to give a heartfelt thank you to the ladies of GP In-Home Care for their special
attention and companionship.
Family and friends are invited to gather at First United Methodist Church on August 14th, at
1:00pm, for visitation, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider
donations to the Karl Stegall Seminary Scholarship Foundation.
