Gay is survived by her loving partner Roger Poole, who faithfully cared for her until the end; sons Greg (Sarah) Farish, and Michael (Jennifer) Farish; grandchildren Andy Farish, Alex Farish, Matthew Farish, and Mary Grace Farish; siblings Doris Copeland and Glenn Hitt; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.S. and Verna Mae Hitt, and her granddaughter, Brittany Margaret Farish.
Gay was born on September 6, 1941 in Union, Mississippi to parents W.S. and Verna Mae Hitt. She grew up in various towns in Mississippi with her sister, Doris, and brother, Glenn.
She graduated from Philadelphia High School in 1959, and married Obe Farish the same year. They had two sons, Greg and Michael. Being an Air Force family, they lived in various places including Anchorage, Alaska, and San Antonio, Texas, before finally retiring in Montgomery.
Gay was an avid reader, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, hummingbirds, and butterflies. She loved visiting family and friends, attending Eastmont Baptist Church, but most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at Eastmont Baptist Church in Montgomery on Saturday, June 19th, at 1:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall, with Reverend Mike Northcutt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, or to the Montgomery Cancer Center.
