

Her education and work included a Bachelors of Science at Howard College in 1951. She taught math, science and physical education at Hewitt High School from 1951-1953. She attended the Carver School of Missions from 1953-1955 and received a Masters Degree and Masters of Religious Education at Peabody College. She was Director of Religious Activities at Westhampton College in Richmond, Va from 1955-1960. She was then Dean of Students at Judson College from 1960-1968. She received her Doctorate at the University of Alabama in 1970. From 1970-1978 she was a counselor and instructor at Gadsden State Community College. She then moved home to take care of her mother and was director of grants at Lawson State Community College from 1978-1988. She retired in 1988 and moved to Montgomery in 1989.
She served as the State President of AARP from 1999-2005. She also served as Chair of the State Legislative Committee and was a part of the Capitol City Task Force.
She was a faithful member of Eastern Hills Baptisit Church where she taught Sunday School in the Senior Adult Division. She enjoyed world travel, going to Gulf Shores and her beloved dogs.
She was preceded in death by her father, Emmette L. Walker; mother, Margarette M. Walker, brother Earl Walker; and brother-in-law Robert B. Reeder.
She is survived by her brother, Emmett E. Walker, (Margaret T. Walker); sister, Jerrie W. Reeder; niece, numerous nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Pallbearers will be Robert Barnes, Robert King, John Mikulka, Richard Short, Don Walker and Doug WeavThe funeral service will be at September 19, 2015 at Leak Memory Chapel with Dr. Rick Marshall and Rev. Larry Armstrong officiating followed by the burial at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will accept friends 11-12:00 PM prior to the service. Leak Memory directing.
