Gordon Weston Mayhew Jr., age 74, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away peacefully among family members in his home on Monday December 24, 2018. Gordon was born May 12, 1944 in Nashville, Tennessee to Gordon and Clara Mayhew.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Ann Mayhew; daughter Heather Mayhew Abbott; grandchildren Zoie and "Bella" Abbott.
Gordon was preceded in death by; father Gordon Mayhew and mother Clara Mayhew.
"Poppy" will be remembered for the way he enjoyed his grandchildren (Zoie and Bella), hunting and fishing, feeding the birds and squirrels. A perfect day for Gordon would include making knives and piddling in his shed. He could build most anything he set his mind to after sitting and planning in his chair with his beloved dog, Trixie. A visitation for Gordon will be held Monday, December 31, 2018 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 12:00 PM at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery, 3001 Simmons Drive, Montgomery, AL 36108.
Serving as pallbearers are Brett Abbott, Charles Spradley, Jimbo Thompson, Daniel Shepherd, Tom Wesenberg, Mike Hoponski and Harrell Latham; Honorary Pallbearer: Zoie Layne Abbott to escort her "Poppy" home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to offset the funeral expenses.
